Leadership in the Classroom

Nurturing Leaders in Every Lesson
The classroom is more than a place to learn. It is a space where leaders are shaped every day. These Master Classes bring diverse leaders to share their experiences becoming the leaders they are today. Every lesson, group project, and conversation is a chance for each of us to practice leading in a supportive setting that encourages us to rise to our potential.
In these Master Classes, we hear from young people who have demonstrated leadership in their classrooms, providing a roadmap and inspiration for others. In doing so, they show us that we can all be leaders.
Two young leaders. Big insights. Lessons that can inspire anyone, in any walk of life.
In our Leadership in the Classroom Master Class, Brooklyn Gardner and Brian German Dunlop shared wisdom well beyond their years. The discussion opened with their definitions of leadership and both knocked it out of the park.
“Leadership doesn’t have to be big and loud. It lives in the small gestures, such as checking in on someone,” Brian told the audience, which included 14 classrooms of 5th- and 6th-grade students. Brooklyn added, “A leader takes people to places they can’t go alone.”
The wide-ranging conversation touched on the importance of empathy, listening to others, and finding community in new and unfamiliar surroundings. While Brian and Brooklyn may be young, the life lessons they shared were valuable for people of all ages. Said one viewer, age 49, “I learned a lot from these young people that I will take back to my community to share.
