Being a Part of Something Bigger....

May 15, 2020

Growing up in Linden, CA, I was able to watch my parents work as educators to help shape our community and its young people.  During my senior year at Linden High School, the seniors paid for renovations for our baseball field. Every day, as a team, we would go out and rake it, water it, and mow it.  After each practice, we would tend to anything that needed to be done. We knew the work we were doing benefited us, but we also knew that the guys coming after us would get to play on a beautiful field. It was a moment when I realized that we all have a part to play for those that come after.

Like many of my teammates, I was in awe watching Derek Jeter play. After I was drafted, I learned quickly that the organization isn’t about one guy. There is a long history to the Yankee’s, and it is something special to have Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettite, Ron Guidrey, and Reggie Jackson checking in with us either during spring training or the regular season. These guys make you feel like you are a part of something bigger.  We are just the next guys up. I think a lot about how I can show those coming up through the Yankees system what this legacy means for all of us.

With the ALL RISE foundation, I am hoping to help create that feeling for other kids. My Mom likes to remind me that humans need to be physiologically and socially comfortable, as well as psychologically happy, to be good learners.   As we grow this platform, we look to assist children to feel that they can follow in strong footsteps and also lead those coming behind them. We hope you will join us.
